The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of Imran Khan has been blamed for the string of problems after the ruthless heavy monsoon rains battered Karachi during the last few days.
The District South of the megacity was in ruins as the infrastructure was in a dilapidated condition to face the brunt of the rain onslaught.
Interestingly, the PTI leaders and workers were continuous cursing the Sindh government of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for not doing enough pre-emptively to deal with such annual devastation.
They also blamed PPP for ruling the province for 14 years in a row but still could not managed to resolve Karachi’s issues.
Now, the fact of the matter is that PTI lawmakers for four years have been claiming that they will develop Karachi. The main issue at the moment is in South District, the only area in entire Pakistan which has 14 MNAs in National Assembly. All the 14 belong to PTI.
The question arises are they being seen now when people need them?
According to statistics released by NDMA, Karachi's Keamari received the highest amount of rainfall (231.75mm) in one day followed by District East (203.3mm), Korangi (191mm), District South (132mm), District Central (129.8mm), Malir (98mm) and District West (53.9mm).
On the other hand, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah was on the road continuously, visiting different rain-stricken areas and issuing instructions to defuse the situation. He had said that there was a severe spell of rain in various areas of District South, about 232mm — nine inches — within 15 hours. He had highlighted the challenges that authorities faced when attempting to clear the flooded roads.
Why the 14 PTI lawmakers are not being visible in public. They can at least sympathise with the people or help them to mitigate their woes. Uttering statements and pinning blames on others are not going to drain out flooded Karachi road.
