In the first month of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's tenure, the average electricity unit price in Pakistan reached a record high of Rs42.59, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

March 2024 saw citizens paying the highest electricity rates in the country's history, according to documents from the Power Division.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) was informed about the detailed breakdown of the average per unit electricity tariff for the fiscal year 2024.

The report revealed that the electricity tariff per unit was the highest in March 2024, incorporating the base tariff along with monthly and quarterly adjustments.

The base price share in the average electricity unit price for March 2024 was Rs 28.35. Monthly adjustments added Rs 7.01 per unit, while quarterly adjustments contributed an additional Rs 4.40 per unit, bringing the total to Rs 42.59.

In contrast, the lowest average electricity tariff per unit in the last financial year was recorded in September 2023, at Rs 33.66. The significant increase in the electricity unit price in Pakistan reflects the rising costs and adjustments over the fiscal year, impacting citizens' utility expenses substantially.
