A case has been registered at the Chuhang Police Station in Lahore against a citizen for dog cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1890, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Friday.
According to the channel report, accused Rana Abrar has been arrested while the affected dogs have been handed over to an NGO.
The case was filed by Lady Warden Arusa Hussain, in charge of the Animal Rescue Centre, following a complaint by a citizen.
CTO Lahore Ammara Athar commended Aroosa Hussain and Head of Operations Zofishan Anoushay for their efforts.
The CTO Lahore emphasised that cruelty towards voiceless animals will not be tolerated.
Ammara Athar stated that the purpose of establishing the Police Animal Rescue Centre is to ensure the protection of voiceless creatures.
The first police animal rescue centre in Lahore was established last year on the instructions of the IG Punjab, with the support of an NGO working for animal welfare.
So far, a total of six cases have been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1890.
