Before sitting on the opposition benches in Punjab Assembly for a protest during the budget session, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) divided into two factions during its parliamentary meeting over the nomination of the opposition leader, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

According to sources, one PTI group wanted to see Aslam Iqbal as the Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly.

While commenting on the issue, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and former Punjab law minister Basharat Raja spoke to media within the premises of Punjab Assembly and said that final decision about the nomination of the opposition leader had not been taken so far.

“The party chairman has the right to nominate the opposition leader. Whoever he nominates will be accepted by all,” he added.

Earlier, the parliamentary meeting of the PTI and the PML-Q was held.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi and former chief minister Usman Buzdar attended the meeting.

Basharat Raja, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan, Raja Yasir Humayun, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Malik Nadeem Abbas Bara, Sardar Sibtain Khan, and other MPAs also attended the meeting.

The parliamentary party considered the names for the opposition leader in Punjab Assembly.

It also framed a strategy for budget session in the House.
