Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omer Ayub Wednesday fiercely criticized the government's economic policies during a conversation with the media in his chamber, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He accused the government of destroying the economy, predicting a further decline in the growth rate in the next financial year.

"The government has destroyed the economy," Ayub stated, highlighting that the country has seen the least investment in its history and alleging that the government has artificially inflated many statistics.

He condemned the government's agricultural claims, noting the destruction of the wheat crop and the inability of farmers to sell it. "Bumper crops are not benefiting the government or farmers," Ayub said, forecasting an impending crisis for rice due to petrol smuggling from Iran.

Ayub also addressed the issue of inflation, arguing that despite global oil price drops, the local population has not seen any benefits. "Inflation has not decreased; it has increased," he asserted, accusing the government of artificially maintaining the dollar rate at 275, which he claims will make essential goods more expensive.

He attributed the ongoing electricity crisis to import restrictions and non-generation of electricity rather than theft, describing the government as "the pharaoh of time, talking to the sky."

Furthermore, Ayub condemned the new defamation law in Punjab, calling it a "poison killer for freedom of the press," and criticized the installation of social media firewalls as an attack on press freedom.

When asked by a journalist about the government's claims of reduced inflation, Ayub responded, "Inflation has reached its peak. Ask the people whether inflation has decreased or increased."
