Govt to consult opposition on electoral reforms

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved a report tabled on the electoral reforms and decided to hold consultations with the opposition parties, 24NewsHD TV channel reported while quoting sources.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan considered different agenda items but this report was perhaps the most important one.
According to the sources, the work on the second stage of electoral reforms would be carried out in coordination with Law Minister Farogh Naseem.
It is said the report prepared by Federal Minister Azam Swati also contains a proposal regarding a change in the Senate elections procedure.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also reviewed the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic as well as endorsing the decisions taken by the ECC (Economic Coordination Committee).
It also approved the appointment of the Central Power Purchasing Agency CEO as well as the members of the National Commission for Women and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
