ISPR DG rules out Martial Law, rejects rumours of any resign from Army

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Friday categorically rejected rumours of rifts among the Pak army ranks.

Talking on a private TV channel programme, he also ruled out any possibility of imposing Martial Law in the country.

Rbuffing the reports of unrest and resignations within the military over the current events in the country, he said that the army was united and will remain so under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir.

ISPR DG said that rumours regarding the resignation of any officer or personnel as well as disobedience were totally false and held no grounds.

He said the Pak army was united and there is no rift among its ranks at any level.

“Despite efforts of domestic miscreants and foreign enemies, the army was, is and will remain united under COAS Gen Asim Munir. The dream of dividing it will always remain a dream. No one has resigned and nor has anyone disobeyed any order.”

To a question, he said Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and all the military leaders believe in democracy and that imposing Martial Law was out of the question.

“I want to say very clearly that Gen Asim Munir and the senior army leadership under him wholeheartedly support democracy and will keep doing so. There is no question of martial law.”

He reiterated his response when pressed for elaboration.
