Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has fulfilled another promise under Chief Minster’s Youth Initiatives with the start of e-balloting of electric and petrol bikes for the youth, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan conducted e-balloting of the applications received for bikes which will be provided to the students on interest-free and easy instalment plan
Bilal Akbar conducted e-balloting of 4 different categories for male and female students by pressing a button at the CM Secretariat in Lahore. The balloting was carried out electronically under the arrangements of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Vice chancellors and students of various universities were also present on the occasion of e-balloting.
Transport Minister, on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, lauded the performance and hard work of various departments who worked hard to make this program a success.
Bilal Akbar said CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif was taking all steps to empower women and a number of interesting and useful schemes were being introduced for working women and special persons in the province.
He said the bike scheme was aimed at bringing cultural changes in the province. Bilal said during the second phase, the number of e-bikes will be increased.
On the occasion, Punjab Secretary Transport Ahmad Javed Qazi gave a detailed briefing on the project. He said 1000 e-electric bikes and 19000 petrol bikes were being given to students through transparent e-belting. Electric bikes will be given to students of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur.
Ahmad Qazi said 72640 students submitted online applications for the bikes under the Chief Minister's Youth Initiative.
He said the number of female students also expressed interest in the scheme. He said to create awareness about the scheme, road shows were held in various universities, and colleges besides online.
Ahmad Qazi said so far under the Chief Minister's Youth Initiative, 190,000 students have been registered to get bikes.
On the occasion, the Transport Minister distributed certificates of appreciation among the officers who made this scheme a success.
Chairman PITB, Additional IG Traffic, Secretary Information, Secretary Finance, Secretary Excise, Chairman Punjab Higher Education, Vice Chancellors of various universities, concerned officials and students were also present on this occasion.
