The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appreciated the cooperation of the district administrations, police, and other law enforcement agencies in conducting the cantonment boards’ elections peacefully today, reported 24News HD TV channel on Sunday.
The ECP also thanked the voters for exercising their voting right in a peaceful manner.
The commission hoped to hold local body elections as soon as possible with the cooperation of the federal government and provincial governments.
The election in 41 cantonment boards ended at 5pm and the counting of ballot papers has started.
The polling has been conducted across the country with 1,559 candidates in the field in 219 wards of cantonment boards. The voting began at 8am and continued until 5pm without any interruption.
As many as 2,197,741 people are eligible to exercise their right of the vote amid tight security measures led by Rangers, FC, and police forces.
The number of male voters is 1,154,551 while the female voters are numbered at 1,043,190. As many as 1,644 polling stations and 5,080 polling booths have been set up to facilitate the voters.
