Two more doctors and a nurse were tested positive for the coronavirus at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, after which the number of infected healthcare staff reached 28.
Dr Masood-ur-Rauf Hiraj, who is the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Multan chapter president, said the coronavirus had so far been found in 17 doctors at the hospital.
The latest results came as coronavirus tests were conducted for over 60 staff members, while more tests are being carried for others.
There are reports that at least 82 doctors are infected by the virus in different parts of the country.
On the other hand, the Nishtar Medical University VC said the infected staff would be shifted to Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Muzaffargarh.
Around 57 patients, including doctors and paramedics, are being already treated at the facility.
The healthcare workers have been complaining about the lack of personal care equipment (PPE) as more and more of their colleagues are being infected by the virus.
Last week, a 38-year-old nurse Sadaf died of coronavirus at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital in Gujrat after which the nurses stopped performing duties in protest.
Sadaf had been experiencing respiratory problems for several days but the management didn’t pay any attention. As a result, the nurse, who was looking after the coronavirus patients, lost her life after falling prey to the very virus.
