The federal railways ministry has extended closures of trains until 24th of April.
Previously, the ministry shut the service as part of protective measures to limit coronavirus spread until April 15.
Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed said the decision to resume the service will be taken after the deliberations with all stakeholders and the department concerns.
Reportedly, Rasheed announced train services Pakistan Railways would likely be resumed from April 15 if Prime Minister Imran Khan permits.
Rasheed also announced that seven railway hospitals will also be dedicated to treating coronavirus patients.
“More than 16,500 passengers travelled in trains in the last two days before the lockdown,” the minister said.
“Our situation is far better than India where many passengers died due to hunger on railway stations because of lockdown,” he added.
He said that Pakistan Railways will play an active role after the lockdown.
