PCB hosts grand ceremony for ICC Women’s Qualifier teams at Lahore Fort

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), under the leadership of Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Sunday hosted a grand reception in honor of women's cricketers representing the six international teams participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. 

According to details, the event transformed the iconic fort into a scene of regal charm, paying tribute to the visiting guests with an unforgettable display of Pakistani hospitality.

Women cricketers and officials from Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand were treated like royalty, receiving a warm and traditional welcome at the fort’s Alamgiri Gate. 

Dressed in Mughal-era attire, attendants and performers lined the entrance, offering ceremonial courtesies in true royal fashion.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi personally welcomed the teams, expressing his admiration and best wishes for their journey in the tournament. 

He joined the players and officials for a group photograph in front of the historic gate and stated, “Pakistan is a peaceful, safe, and cricket-loving country. Lahore warmly welcomes you all as our special guests, and we hope your stay in the ‘City of Life’ is both pleasant and memorable.”

The event was attended by match referees, umpires, and several senior PCB officials, including COO Sameer Ahmed, CFO Javed Murtaza, Head of Women’s Cricket Rafia Haider, Director of International Cricket Usman Wahila, Director of Domestic Cricket Abdullah Khurram Niazi, and HR Director Faisal Malik. 

U.S. Consul General Kristin K. Hawkins was also present on the occasion.

The international guests were given a guided tour of Lahore’s rich heritage, including the Badshahi Mosque, Iqbal’s Mausoleum, Hazuri Bagh, and key sections of the Lahore Fort such as the Diwan-e-Khas, Diwan-e-Aam, Sheesh Mahal, and Barood Khana.

The visitors expressed great interest in the fort’s historical significance and architectural beauty.

Adding a vibrant cultural touch, the event featured traditional Dhol performances and Kathak dance displays that captivated the guests. 

Many international players joined in the dancing, while melodious flute music enchanted the crowd. 

Guests also enjoyed a ride in the colorful "Rangila Rikshaw," adding a lighthearted, local experience to the evening.

The highlight of the evening was a grand Mughal-style banquet held in honor of the guests. 

Many of the international players described the event as unforgettable, thanking the PCB for organizing such a unique and memorable occasion.

 “It was a first-of-its-kind experience,” said one official. “We are taking beautiful memories from Lahore with us.”
