The Sindh government on Thursday removed Zia-ur-Rehman, younger brother of JUI-F chief Fazl-ur-Rehman, as deputy commissioner of Karachi’s Central District and handed over his services to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
A few weeks ago, appointment of Zia-ur-Rehman as deputy commissioner in Karachi sparked a controversy, with the opposition parties accusing the Sindh government of favouring the JUI-F to make the upcoming all-parties conference a "success".
In January 2020, the federal government had transferred Zia-ur-Rehman, a Grade-19 officer of the Provincial Management Service, to Sindh on deputation. Later, he was appointed deputy commissioner of city’s Central District, according to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department of the Sindh government.
It is pertinent to mention here that his appointment was made in one of the most important districts of the port city.
