A joint meeting of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association held on Thursday.
Talking to media after the meeting, PBC Vice Chairman Abid Saqi questioned the procedure of appointment of judges. He said that judges were not being appointed on merit. He said that the spirit of Article 175-A had been culminated. He said that the role of parliamentary committee and bar council was also ended.
The PBC vice chairman said that body would hold all parties conference in the mid of September. He said that judges’ appointment would be the top agenda of the APC. He said that common people were suffering as judges were not appointed on merit. He said if their demands were not met, they would not let appoint new judges.
He said that NAB laws, FATF legislation, freedom of expression and extension of army chief would also be discussed during the APC. He said that a national charter of demand would be presented in the APC.
Saqi said that biometric voting system would be used in next elections of all the bar associations and bar councils. He said that biometric system would be installed at all bars before next the elections. He announced that election of all the five bar councils would be held on November 14.
The senior lawyer said that the Supreme Court should dispose of 45,000 pending cases. He said that the bar would extend every support to Supreme Court judge Qazi Faez Isa. He said bar already filed review petition against short order of the Supreme Court.
