Neelum Jhelum project restoration spurs power generation

The hydel power generation has surged after the restoration of operationalization of Neelum Jhelum project, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Wapda’s hydropower production has topped the 8,000MW mark on Friday.

During the peak hours, 8,158MW of electricity was generated from WAPDA hydropower plants.

This production of hydroelectricity is the highest of the current year and when the indent of IRSA from Mangala Dam soars, the hydroelectricity generation will register further rise.

According to the data, 3,478MW of electricity was generated from Tarbela Dam during peak hours yesterday.

Tarbela 4th extension project generated 1410MW and Ghazi Barotha 1450MW while 798MW from Neelum Jhelum project and 305MW from Mangla Dam were supplied to the national grid.

About 717MW of electricity was generated from other hydropower plants of Wapda.

Wapda’s hydropower is the cheapest electricity produced in Pakistan. The average production cost of Wapda hydropower unit is Rs3.51.
