The Power Division’s preliminary report on the issue of overcharging and overbilling has surfaced.
The Power Division prepared the preliminary report following Nepra's findings, admitted overbilling, faulty meters and changing slabs of electricity consumers
In July, more than 4.5 million electricity consumers were burdened with over 31-day bills, the report said, adding that from 32 to 34 days bills were sent to 4 million customers.
The Power Division admitted more than 381,510 cases of faulty meters and in July, more than 4.5 million customers were sent bills for additional days.
A total of 846, 468 consumers were affected by slab change in July and 11,276 people were moved from lifeline to non-lifeline in July.
The findings showed that 5,574,275 consumers were hit by additional days charges in August and 825, 562 consumers were affected by slab change in August/
However, the power division showed reservations about the Nepra findings. the figures of the Nepra probe report as exaggerated
In the report, the Power Division termed the Nepra team's procedure as flawed and ineffective.
It stressed Nepra report has quality control and data processing errors and the team showed bias while sampling while the operational difficulties of the power companies were not taken into consideration.
