Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, during an informal conversation with members of the Supreme Court Press Association, Monday emphasized the independence of Supreme Court judges and called for constructive criticism of the judiciary, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Chief Justice Afridi highlighted that every Supreme Court judge approaches cases independently, underscoring the importance of not grouping judges together.
"Judges should be criticized, but it should be constructive," he said, encouraging thoughtful discourse on judicial decisions.
Reflecting on his sudden appointment, Chief Justice Afridi humorously noted the haste with which he assumed his role, saying, "The decision to become the Chief Justice was made so quickly that I could not even buy a new suit for the oath-taking ceremony."
Chief Justice Afridi also spoke on judicial reforms, emphasizing respect for the authority of the High Courts and the subordinate judiciary. He assured that there would be no direct interference in their functions, likening the Supreme Court to a Titanic that requires careful direction rather than abrupt changes to improve the delivery of justice.
