In a major crackdown, the FIA Gujranwala zone has arrested two suspects, including the notorious human trafficker Imran Shakur, linked to the tragic Greek boat accident.
The suspects, identified as Imran Shakur and Zafar Iqbal, were apprehended from different areas in Kharian and Mandi Bahauddin. Imran Shakur, a key figure in a human trafficking network, was implicated in the boat disaster that claimed the life of Ahsan Ali, a victim from Jalalpur Jattan.
Imran Shakur, acting with accomplices, extorted Rs 45 lakh to send Ahsan Ali to Europe. The victim was kept in safe houses in Libya before being forced onto the ill-fated boat to Greece, where he perished.
Meanwhile, Zafar Iqbal was involved in defrauding a citizen by promising a job in Italy, collecting Rs 7 lakh before fleeing. Important evidence, including incriminating data on human trafficking, was recovered from the suspects' mobile phones.
Director of the Gujranwala Zone, Abdul Qadir Qamar, affirmed that all resources are being deployed to apprehend the remaining suspects, with ongoing raids as part of the intensified crackdown against those involved in such crimes.
