The Lahore High Court Monday rejected the interim bail application of Police Inspector Mazhar Iqbal, accused of smuggling drugs to India using drones, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested Inspector Iqbal from the court premises following the decision.

Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan presided over the hearing. Inspector Iqbal, accompanied by his lawyer, sought relief, while Special Prosecutor Hamad Akbar Wilana represented the ANF.

The defense argued that the ANF registered the case against Iqbal in 2023, alleging the recovery of a drone and ten kilograms of heroin from a vehicle late at night.

However, the prosecution opposed the bail, highlighting that Iqbal had absconded for 14 months after his initial bail plea was rejected.

The prosecutor noted that Iqbal faced 14 cases, including drug charges, and had been dismissed, demoted, and later reinstated due to his influence.

The court, considering the gravity of the allegations and Iqbal's history of absconding, dismissed his bail application.

Inspector Iqbal, previously declared an absconder by the trial court, was taken into custody by the ANF immediately after the hearing.
