Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma dies of cardiac arrest

Yashpal Sharma, former India cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, passed away on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest.

Indian news agency ANI broke the news on the social media site Twitter. Their post read, "Yashpal Sharma, a member of the 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning team, died of cardiac arrest this morning."

Sharma, 66, made his cricket debut for India against Pakistan in 1978 and went on to score 11 runs in a match that India lost by eight wickets. The following year, Sharma made his Test debut against England.

Yashpal Sharma played 37 Test matches scoring 1,606 runs at an average of 33.45. He scored two centuries and nine fifties and also had a wicket to his name.

Sharma played 42 ODIs and scored 883 runs averaging with the bat at 28.48 with four fifties and a wicket under his name.
