The government once again has taken a U-turn as it has decided to bring about new amendments in its already approved Election Amendment Bill, 2021, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources told 24News TV channel on Tuesday that the government was mulling new amendments in its much-hyped Election Amendment Bill, 2021 which was greatly detested by the opposition parties and Election Commission of Pakistan as well.
The sources claimed that the government did not seek consultation of the law ministry on the bill and let it sailed through the National Assembly. They said Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem was not consulted on the legislation.
The Prime Minister Office (PMO) deliberated on the objections raised by the Election Commission of Pakistan and opposition parties in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The sources informed that Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the parliamentary affairs ministry to consult with the law minister and constitutional experts in this regard.
They further said that a letter had been dispatched to the law minister to remove the legal lacunae in the Election Amendment Bill, 2021 so that it could be in consonance with the democratic principles.
Law Minister Dr Naseem has already started work on it, the sources said, adding that there would be a big meeting on the Election Amendment Bill, 2021 after Eidul Azha.
