In yet another success on the diplomatic front, Pakistan Wednesday once again thwarted India’s bid for a permanent seat in United Nations Security Council (UNSC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Pakistan s position on permanent membership in the United Nations was recognized, while, the Arab League and the African Union also supported Pakistan s position.

The decision called for talks to continue for a permanent Security Council seat, sources said

G4 Group of India, Japan, Germany and Brazil push for facilitator discussion. However, Pakistan and 12-member United for Consensus Group strongly oppose Security Council expansion.

Sources said the opposition of the UFC group has led to the G4 countries failing to get their agenda approved.

Pakistan demanded a consensus in principle before starting a text-based discussion.

A two-thirds majority is required for permanent membership in the Security Council. India does not have the support of half the members to become a permanent member of the UNSC. Only with this support can a change be made in the Security Council's charter to increase the number.

In the second phase, the decision must be ratified by the parliaments, cabinets or legislatures of more than 129 countries. The United States has no objection to increasing the number of permanent members in the Security Council but is not in favour of giving veto powers to prospective permanent members.

New Delhi has always violated UN resolutions and is also involved in serious human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
