The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the immediate release of party founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

The PTI raised the demand in its core committee meeting held after the arrest of Khan and his wife in a fresh Toshakhana case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested the PTI founder and his wife moments after their release from Adiala Jail in the Iddat case.

District and Sessions Court in Islamabad overturned the conviction of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case.

The couple was convicted in the Iddat case on February 3 on a complaint filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Fareed Maneka.

Senior civil judge Qudratullah sentenced the ex-premier and his spouse to seven years in jail and imposed a Rs500,000 fine each.

The PTI core committee declared the acquittal in the Iddat trial a victory of truth and justice, demanded the immediate release of Imran Khan and his wife

It stressed that the government has been using all-out resources to keep the party founder in detention, subjecting the ex-premier to political persecution.

Under such circumstances, the PTI core pointed out that nationwide resistance would be a last resort.

Imran Khan was kept in detention, deprived of basic facilities and subjected to the worst conditions in jail for doing nothing for a year, the committee said, adding that fake cases were registered against the ex-premier and his wife to weaken him.

“We went for legal remedy and knocked on the court's door, the leaders at the meeting stressed, adding that the PTI won and now the court should ensure the rule of law and supremacy of judiciary.

For the fourth time, such a case is being framed to keep Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi imprisoned, it said adding that the law and judicial interpretations do not allow multiple cases on the same issue, but in the case of Imran Khan and his wife, the state elements are not ready to consider any law.

The PTI leaders said if Imran Khan and his wife are not released according to the court order, they will directly approach the ‘people's court to get justice.’
