Punjab Information Minister and PML-N leader Azma Bukhari said on Saturday that it appeared from yesterday’s Supreme Court’s (SC) decision in the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) reserved seats case that the judges’ wives had won while the constitution had lost, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, she said, “Love for the pampered boy (Imran Khan) prevailed over the constitution, who was still being provided relief by the courts.”
“The question is for how long, courts would continue to have a soft corner for him.”
Azma wondered how the apex court’s decision was leaked before it was pronounced.
The minister was of the view that decisions based on the law of necessity were detrimental to the country. “Nations always learn from the mistakes they have made.”
Azma claimed that the PML-N leadership always accepted the courts’ verdicts gleefully. “Former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was disqualified for not taking a salary from his son,” she said, adding no matter what, the constitution should always remain supreme.
She went on to say that the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) had itself admitted that it had not contested the February 8th general elections.
“The point is how the PTI was provided relief despite the fact that it had never asked for that. While commenting on the SC’s verdict, Barrister Ali Zafar, the party’s counsel, had said he and other lawyers were also surprised to learn that it was the PTI, and not the SIC, which had been given reserved seats by the court,” the minister said.
Responding to the PTI leaders’ accusations against the country’s intelligence agencies that they interfered in the working of the courts, Azma said when agencies interfered, cases like Panama leaks surfaced, a former prime minister (Nawaz Sharif) was disqualified and his daughter Maryam Nawaz was punished for standing by her father.
