The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has decided to extend the duration of its Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme from four years to five years.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, a new modular integrated curriculum for BDS will be implemented starting in the 2024–25 session.
The channel reported that this decision was approved during the 48th meeting of the UHS Board of Studies in Dentistry on Friday.
According to the TV channel, the meeting was presided over by UHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore.
On June 26, the Board of Governors of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) approved the Rs2,428 million budget for the financial year 2024-25.
Justice (retired) Sheikh Ahmad Farooq chaired the meeting.
As many as Rs82 million have been allocated for research and scholarships, Rs241.9 million for the annual development plan, and Rs888.4 million for the salaries of the employees. An increase of up to 25% in the salaries of the employees has also been approved as an ad hoc relief allowance.
As many as Rs10 million has been allocated for the financial assistance of the families of employees who died during their service, Rs65 million for the purchase of laboratory equipment, Rs50 million for the mosque, student mart, and other civil works on the Jinnah campus of the university, and Rs250 million has been earmarked for conducting examinations.
UHS conducts more than 750 examinations annually.
