Karachi is facing a severe shortage of tetanus injections leading to a black market trade, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

As per details, Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association (PCDA) Senior Vice Chairman Abdul Samad Badhani said that some pharmacists were selling anti-tetanus injections at exorbitant prices amid a shortage in Karachi.

The tetanus injection of Rs.60 is being sold for Rs.600 on the black market.

Store owners said that they were unable to get the injection from the suppliers directly as a result some profiteers were charging prices for the anti-tetanus injection as high as nearly 10 times its actual price.

People, who get injured in accidents, are facing extreme difficulties as anti-tetanus injections are not available in private clinics and hospitals.

As per medical experts, the injection must be administered within 72 hours of the injury, as bacteria could enter the body through various wounds.
