PML-N Senator Chaudhry Tanvir, who was detained at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, has been shifted to Rawalpindi Cantt police station, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The PML-N senator is facing allegations of corruption and grabbing state land.
A team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested Chaudhry Tanvir from the Karachi airport and handed him over to Punjab’s Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE).
He will be produced before the court of a duty magistrate.
PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz termed the arrest of the senator unlawful. “Ch Tanveer sb was illegally detained in Karachi, then brought to Lahore without transit bail. He is a chronic heart patient and on medication. The family has been trying to deliver medicines but access not being given. What a shame,” she had tweeted.
It is learnt that Chaudhry Tanvir was set to leave the country through a private airline when he was detained by the FIA.
The PML-N leaders filed a petition in court, stating that Chaudhry Tanvir’s life was in danger.
The local magistrate, on court orders, came to Karachi airport police station in search for Chaudhry Tanvir but he was nowhere to be found.
