Karachi is set to host the thrilling playoffs of the Pakistan Super League season 9 (PSL-9), where the top-performing teams will battle for the coveted championship. The Multan Sultans have emerged as the table-toppers, showcasing a remarkable victory over the Quetta Gladiators with a decisive 79-run lead.
The Sultans’ victory has paved their way to face Peshawar Zalmi in the first Qualifier on March 14 at the National Bank Stadium. The Gladiators, on the other hand, are gearing up to challenge Islamabad United in the Eliminator on March 15. Both Sultans and Zalmi have a second shot at the final, as the loser of Qualifier 1 will confront the winner of the Eliminator on March 16.
The Sultans’ formidable performance in the last round match was a testament to their strategic prowess, with Mohammad Rizwan leading his team to defend a solid score of 186. The Gladiators were restricted to 106, succumbing in the 16th over. Key players Willey and Usama Mir each took three wickets, while Abbas Afridi added two to the tally.
Earlier, Rizwan and Johnson Charles scored impressive half-centuries, propelling their team to a strong position with 185/4. Rizwan’s 47-ball 69, including four sixes, made him the top-scorer, while Charles contributed a swift 53 off 29 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed remained unbeaten, adding a quick 20 runs.
