A video purportedly of a Karachi bank manager showing misprinted Rs1000 currency notes issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) went viral, 24NewsHD TV channel reports.
The clip cited a National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branch manager saying: “The cash that arrived this morning have bundles of misprinted Rs1000 notes.
“One side of the notes are printed and the other in plain. It is unknown how many such bills went to the customers,” he adds.
A spokesman for the SBP said the matter was referred to the department concerned.
A few months ago, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance raised concern over the widespread circulation of counterfeit notes.
During a meeting, then committee chief PPP Senator Salim Mandviwala presented a bundle of fake Rs5000 notes and highlighted that even officials from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) failed to recognise them.
