People will see the difference between Prime Minister Imran Khan and others soon, says Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar.
The federal minister said on Tuesday that a report of the commission investigating a recent sugar scandal would confirm whether sugar was smuggled or not. He said he himself appeared before the commission. He said the prime minister was not answerable about the sugar scandal. He said he was chairman of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) before the sugar scandal came to the fore therefore he came to answer the inquiry commission’s questions. He said the commission asked him questions and he answered those questions.
Asad said that a report of a committee on the sugar scandal was made public earlier. Historically speaking, he said, commissions are made and reports prepared in Pakistan and then there is no outcome. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would not disappoint the nation. He said that report of the inquiry commission on the sugar scandal would be released soon; people would just have to wait for it. He said he did not know anything vis-à-vis extension to the inquiry commission. He said the government would decide the future course of action once the inquiry commission releases its report on the sugar scandal.
Referring to the government’s decision to ease the coronavirus lockdown in the country, Asad said that preventive measures must be taken to stop the spread of the virus. He said the scenes he saw on the first day after the government eased the lockdown were not encouraging.
