Opp agrees to lead 11 standing committees, PAC chairmanship, govt gets 27 in NA

The issue of the chairmanship of 38 standing committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), in the National Assembly has been settled as the opposition agreed to lead 11 and the government 27 committees.


According to the 24News HD TV channel, a consensus was reached between the government and the opposition on the distribution of 38 standing committees and PAC on Monday.


As per the decision, 27 Standing Committees came under the control of the government and its allies, while the other 11 committees, including the PAC, came to the opposition.


The sources said the chief whip of the parliamentary parties will provide names for the chairmanship of the standing committees and the members to the chief whip of the government.


The sources said the chief whip of the government will hold elections for the chairmanship of the committees after receiving the complete list from the parliamentary parties in the NA.


National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq played an important role in resolving the issue of the chairmanship of standing committees and the PAC.


Several meetings were held for the allocation of the posts of chairmanship of the standing committees among the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) Minister for Religious Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) MNA Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council’s (PTI-SIC) Chief Whip in the National Assembly Malik Aamir Dogar.
