Foodpanda has begun a trial phase of delivering food from a special drone in Islamabad.
The drone test service 'Pandafly' was conducted at F9 Park Islamabad in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.
The Foodpanda rider received a meal order from a restaurant on a corner of the park weighing 2.5 kg and placed it in the drone's storage bag.
The package was then flown by drone to the other side of the park, where another rider received it and distributed food to children invited by the charity Sweet Homes.
The use of this innovative technology by Foodpanda clearly means that long distance food delivery will be possible at a much faster rate in future.
Consumers, especially those living in remote and adjoining areas, will benefit from this facility as they had limited options of food outlets locally, but now thanks to drone delivery they can also order food from central city locations.
The Foodpanda rider in the vicinity of the customer will receive the order from the rider drone and deliver it to the customer's home.
Speaking on the occasion, Foodanda CEO Noman Sikandar Mirza said, "Foodpanda's core vision is to continue to innovate, set new standards and take advantage of technology to meet the changing needs of the people.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqat was the chief guest at the inaugural function.
Expressing his views, he said, "Along with providing services to the citizens through the use of e-commerce and technology, the civil administration of Islamabad is committed to provide support the firms that take steps to facilitate the people."
“We wish Foodpanda the best of luck in bringing this pilot project into regular active service”, he added.
