Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has called for framing an international strategy to deal with the “complicated challenges” of worldwide immigration flow stemmed from problems like prolonged conflicts, economic instability and climate change, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Budapest Process in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday, Mohsin Naqvi maintained that no country can combat such a huge challenge on its own. “That’s why a global strategy is needed to handle this tactfully,” he added.
Mohsin Naqvi said new challenges continue to arise due to current global turmoil and they have to adopt comprehensive policies to address these challenges.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan has already taken various legal and administrative measures to curb illegal immigration by introducing effective policies to curb human smuggling and taking measures to award exemplary punishment to accused involved in human smuggling.
The Pakistani minister said that general public should get awareness about result of illegal immigration and human smuggling. He said the current government adopted tough measures with the help of European Union to promote legal immigration.
He said during current years lot of negative propaganda being spread against migrants which is not good. He said measures should be adopted to promote legal migration and anyone should be treated equally and on merit.
Mohsin Naqvi said that addressing Budapest Summit was an honour for him and Pakistan will extend full support to Budapest Process.
He also congratulated Turkey and Hungary for holding such conference. He also thanked the Government of Hungary and its people for extending him a warm welcome. He said that Budapest is a beautiful and historical city.
He lauded efforts of Global Centre for Migration Policy Development for holding this summit.
