The National Assembly on Thursday passed the resolution to restore the name of Islamabad International Airport as Benazir Bhutto International Airport with the majority of votes.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Nawabzada Iftikhar Ali Khan moved the resolution in the Assembly session.
The resolution said that the previous government had changed the name of Benazir Bhutto International Airport to Islamabad International Airport.
The airport was named Benazir Bhutto International Airport to pay homage to the sacrifices of the Bhutto family, the resolution said adding that the name of Islamabad International Airport should be restored to Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) member Kishore Zahra opposed the resolution and said that as a woman leader they respect Benazir Bhutto but they had requested to rename Islamabad Airport after Liaquat Ali Khan as he was second to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In the session, the issue of the appointment of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori was also discussed and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) member Saira Bano said that his appointment is unjust to the people of Sindh as none of the 14 parties recognizes him.
Replying to this, MQM member Saber Qaim Khani said it is not appropriate to question the role of Kamran Tessori as his name was given after party consultation.
