The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s failure to clear dues for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operators has caused fears of the service suspension.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the operator wrote a letter to the chief executive for clearing Rs586m dues.
The letter reads: “We have not received any of payment against our invoices for August and September, outstanding due amounting to Rs586 million including adjustments.”
“The services will be discontinued from October 19 if the arrears are not cleared,” it warned.
The service caters to thousands of commuters in the provincial capital on a daily basis.
A spokesperson for the BRT confirmed receiving the letter, saying that the matter has been raised and taken up with the finance department.
Spokesman Sadaf Kamil stressed it is hoped the finance department will release the funds and the arrears will be cleared at the earliest.
