The 6th National Women’s Weightlifting Championship Saturday concluded with the Pakistan Army clinching the coveted trophy after a dominant performance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Army team secured first place with 115 points, while WAPDA finished as the runner-up with 102 points.
Punjab took third place with 39 points in the competition held at Lahore.
This year’s championship witnessed the establishment of nine new national records, with exceptional performances from various athletes.
Among the standout performers were Army’s Noor Fatima, Nida Fatima, and Khadija Waheed, along with WAPDA’s Shafaq Waheed and Neelam Riaz, all of whom set new national records in their respective categories.
The gold medal haul was led by Army, with Nida Fatima, Noor Fatima, Khadija Waheed, and Sonia Azmat all clinching top honors in their events.
Meanwhile, athletes from other teams also excelled, with Sindh’s Nazia Aslam, and WAPDA’s Neelam Riaz, Nadia Maqsood, Saira Bano, Shafaq Waheed, and Sawera Farooq winning gold medals in various categories.
