Singer Uzair Jaswal is using his platform to collect money for Pakistani flood victims. His concert in Islamabad on September 17 would contribute all net earnings entirely to the flood-affected people.
Jaswal informed people through his social media account and shared a poster saying Flood Relief Concert. The singer also gave details under the post, writing: “Millions of Pakistanis have lost their loved ones, homes, land and businesses to the most devastating flood ever to hit Pakistan. It is a time when we need to stand together with our fellow countrymen as a nation to support them in any way we can”.
He also added: “The proceeds from this concert will go entirely to the flood victims so please get your tickets and be there to support the cause.”
The Hill Joint LokVirsa in Islamabad will host the outdoor performance on September 17. Each ticket costs 1,000PKR and can be purchased from Tikito online.
The most devastating floods in Pakistan's history were triggered by torrential monsoon rains, which also washed away hundreds of villages and left approximately 3.4 million people including children in need of aid and more vulnerable to watery illnesses, drowning, and hunger.
Numerous public health institutions, water infrastructure, and schools have also been destroyed or damaged, in addition to hundreds of thousands of residences.
In the coming days and weeks, it's anticipated that the dangerous humanitarian scenario will only become worse as more rain falls in already-underwater areas. In Pakistan, many of the most severely affected districts are also among the most vulnerable, where children already experience high rates of hunger and inadequate access to water and sanitation. Cholera and other water-borne illnesses are very likely.
