On the order of the federal government, grand operation against the people involved in stealing electricity is going on across the country in full swing so that the country could be pulled out of energy crisis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) Sheikhupura Circle has caught 129 consumers who were stealing power.
According to the LESCO official, out of these 129 consumers, 123 were domestic, four were related to agriculture and two were factory owners.
He informed that 37 power pilferers were also booked.
Similarly, the official has added that heavy fines have also been imposed on those arrested in this connection.
Likewise, as many as 178 people have been taken into custody in Gujranwala alone, while cases have been registered against 11 of them.
Similarly, 35 persons have been arrested in Gujrat while 45 cases have been registered; 299 cases have been registered at Pakpattan and 192 persons have been held, while 131 cases have been registered in Okara.

First case registered in Karachi
As part of a crackdown on electricity thieves, first case in Karachi has been registered at SITE police station on the complaint of Karachi-Electric (K-Electric).
Police have said that they have also taken into possession the kunda, which was being used for the purpose.
In Umarkot in interior Sindh, 1,250 illegal connections have been severed while close to 10 FIRs have been registered.
Out of these, four were registered at City police station, three at Samaro and Kunri each.
SDOs of the entire district have swung into action against the power pilferers.
Likewise, eight people have been booked for stealing electricity in Shikarpur, while 10 have been booked in Qambar.
Police in Khairpur have arrested 15 persons who were involved in power theft.
470 found involved in power theft in Quetta
In Quetta, too, police have come down hard on the people involved in stealing electricity.
According to the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) officials, out of total 569 connections checked so far, power theft has been detected in 470.
In all 470 complaints have been lodged at concerned police stations, while 41 FIRs have been registered.
Similarly, they have informed, 38 power thieves have been arrested.
They have disclosed that over Rs20 million worth electricity units were stolen.
The QESCO officials have told electricity thieves to immediately remove their illegal connections (kundas) or else get ready to face the music.
The power distribution company has also urged the consumers to keep an eye on power pilferers to become part of the nationwide campaign.
Iranian diesel seized in Hyderabad
Customs Intelligence and Investigation during an operation on the national highway Hyderabad has foiled the smuggling of Iranian diesel.
Superintendent Custom Intelligence Khair Muhammad informed in this regard that Iranian diesel was being smuggled by making secret tanks in cargo trawlers.
He said that by confiscating two trawlers, the smuggling of Iranian diesel was foiled.
“There are thousands of liters of diesel in the secret tanks of the two trawlers which is worth hundreds thousands of rupees”, Superintendent of Customs Intelligence said.
He said Iranian diesel was being brought via Sindh National Highway via Balochistan.
“No concession will be made with the smuggling mafia”, Superintendent Customs Intelligence determined.
