The Islamabad High Court's (IHC) Chief Justice mocked 'Comedic' FIRs in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders' remand case and nullified the physical remand over bizarre allegations and sent them to jail on judicial remand.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, a two-member bench of the IHC, led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, heard the petition seeking to annul the physical remand of arrested PTI leaders on Friday.
During the proceedings, talking to the Islamabad Prosecutor, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked, "It has been four days, and you’ve done what you needed to do. Credit must be given—we’ve seen some good comedy after a long time, and whoever wrote the FIR did a great job at comedy."
The IHC annulled the decision of the physical remand for the arrested PTI members. This order was issued in response to the petitions filed by the accused arrested in cases related to the PTI rally, with the hearing adjourned until the following day.
Earlier, the petitioner's lawyer argued that the court should not grant an extended physical remand, highlighting that the trial court’s order lacked any stated reasons for the remand.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq questioned the Islamabad Prosecutor on how they intended to defend the remand decision. In response, the prosecutor read out the FIRs against the accused.
The Chief Justice humorously responded, "Credit should be given—it's been a while since we've seen such good comedy. Whoever wrote the FIR wrote a good comedy, putting a pistol on Shoaib Shaheen. Do I not know Shoaib Shaheen?"
The Prosecutor General of Islamabad informed the court that a pistol was recovered from Sher Afzal Marwat and a baton from Shoaib Shaheen, prompting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq to burst into laughter, leading to laughter throughout the courtroom.
The Chief Justice further quipped, "Ye Police Hy Ya Rizia Hy Jo Ghondoon Main Ghir Gai?" (Is this Islamabad Police or a girl caught among hooligans?) And as for Gauhar Khan, they claim he pulled out a pistol. Don’t you and I both know Gauhar?" He added that the case involved ridiculous accusations, resulting in an eight-day remand.
