A delegation of recently formed coalition government reached Thursday the office of acting National Assembly (NA) Speaker Qasim Khan Suri to raise the issue of delaying the lower house session from April 16 to April 22 with the NA secretary, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The delegation comprised Khurshid Shah, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Shahida Akhtar Ali, Khurram Dastagir, and Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
The government delegation adopted that the acting NA speaker did not have the prerogative to delay the lower house session after the submission of a no-confidence motion against him.
“It has now been seven days since a notice of the no-confidence motion was submitted against acting NA Speaker Qasim Suri,” said the delegation.
“It is now a constitutional requirement to carry out voting on the no-confidence motion against the acting NA speaker,” it added.
The government delegation also acquired nomination papers for the election of the NA speaker and deputy speaker.
