An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday rejected the bail petitions of 86 PTI workers, who had been arrested in connection with incidents of violence on November 26, while granting bail to six workers in the illegal weapons case in lieu of surety bonds of Rs5,000 each, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Earlier judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain reserved the verdict after the parties concluded their arguments.

Cases had been registered against 86 workers at Tarnol and Kohsar police stations of the federal capital.

Sardar Muhammad Masroof Advocate, Amina Ali Advocate, Zahid Bashir Dar, Ansar Kiani, Murtaza Toori and Fateh Allah Burki represented the suspects in the court.

Sardar Masroof Advocate said that none of these suspects had been nominated in the FIRs. “English was spoken to the workers during the identification parade. But the question is whether the police official was able to speak English and the petitioners were able to make sense of what he had said,” he argued.

“The fact of the matter is that there exists not a single evidence that could implicate my clients in these cases,” he said, adding, “Police arrested all suspects from their homes and not from the spot.”

Prosecutor Raja Naveed Kiani argued there was material that linked the workers to the offences committed on that day. “Witnesses had recognized all of them during the identification parade,” he told the judge.
