Over the issue of the legal status of the intra-party election, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) summoned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on December 18 again to clear its position.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the sources in the ECP said the commission took serious notice of the PTI's propaganda against it on the issue of intra-party election.
According to the sources of the Election Commission, the intra-party elections of PTI appeared to be contrary to the law and the party constitution.
The sources said it is clear in the Election Act that the Commission must be satisfied regarding the intra-party election and only after that the Election Commission is authorized to issue the certificate to the party and publish the details of the election in the official gazette.
The Election Commission is bound to withhold notification of intra-party elections unless the party complies with the Constitution and the Election Act.
On the other hand, the PTI claimed that the intra-party elections were conducted as per the party's constitution and Election Act 2017.
However, the Election Commission sent a notice to Tehreek-e-Insaf on December 7 and asked for clarifications and details regarding the intra-party election.
And, the PTI submitted its reply on December 8 which was reviewed by the ECP and declared the answers to the questions raised in the December 7 notice to be insufficient.
