Pakistan achieved another milestone in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as Daud Jan from Karachi secured third place in the senior category at the World MMA Championship 2024.
Competing in the 61.2 kg weight class, Daud became Pakistan's first-ever world no. 3 ranked athlete in the division, winning a bronze medal and bringing pride to the nation.
The championship, organized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA), was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, featuring over 600 athletes from 63 countries.
Despite financial constraints, Pakistan managed to send only six athletes across youth and senior categories.
In the senior category, Daud Jan earned a bronze medal in the 61.2 kg weight class, marking a historic achievement.
Mahmood Kamal secured two bronze medals in the -93 kg and +93 kg categories. In the youth category, Muhammad Saqib clinched a gold medal in the 52.2 kg weight class.
India also participated with 30 athletes in the championship, while Kazakhstan and Ukraine fielded 40 and 50 athletes, respectively.
Pakistan’s limited squad proved its mettle despite challenges, outperforming expectations in a competitive field.
