In a shocking development reported from Hub in Balochistan, which had been enjoying the status of a polio-free district since 2007, poliovirus has been found in the samples collected from sewage, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Sources in the health department informed that the revelation was made when a World Health Organisation team visited the area to collect samples.

It is worth-mentioning here that a majority of cases of the virus reported from Balochistan this year prompted the provincial government to initiate a five-day anti-polio campaign.

On Friday, 24News TV channel reported that an alarming rise in poliovirus cases had been witnessed in Pakistan as four more cases were reported from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the last 24 hours.

Two cases of the virus were reported from KP while two from Sindh, taking the total number of cases reported this year from across the country to 63.

According to the latest statistics, released by the National Institute of Health (NIH), there were reports of two girls in KP contracting the virus: one was from Dera Ismail Khan, while the other from Tank.

In Sindh, one case was reported from Jacobabad, while the other one was from Sukkur.
