The Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh on Friday terminated the services of three government employees who were accused of harassing women at their workplaces.
Abdul Lateef of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) was found guilty in two cases of women harassment. The ombudsman terminated his government service and imposed a fine of Rs150,000 fine on him.
Similarly, Javaid Hassan and Mirza Zafar’s services were terminated and a Rs100,000 was imposed on each of them.
Harassment of women at workplace is a common phenomenon in Pakistan. On February 5 this year, the federal ombudsman for protection against harassment of women at the workplace had suspended the services of a senior official of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to stop him from influencing an inquiry against him.
Federal Ombudsperson Kashmala Tariq was hearing a complaint filed by a PEMRA employee against a human resource and administration official in which the employee accused him of abuse of authority and sexual harassment.
