In a written reply submitted to Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding ‘assets beyond means inquiry’ against former president Gen (retd) Parvez Musharraf, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Monday stated that the petition for contempt of court against NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal—for not launching an inquiry against the former president—was baseless and should be dismissed.
The NAB, in its reply to the court, asserted that it had started inquiry against the former president in 2018, collecting the record of his accounts and assets.
“The record of the accounts and assets of his family members was also collected,” it added.
The NAB maintained that it had uncovered two foreign properties and as many foreign accounts of Parvez Musharraf, adding that Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) requests had also been written for collection of further details about the foreign properties and accounts of the former president.
The NAB in its reply maintained: “Not only did NAB include Parvez Musharraf in its inquiry, but it also sent him a questionnaire seeking details about him. According to the reply submitted by Musharraf, he has been suffering from serious diseases.”
A two-member IHC bench, led by Justice Athar Minallah will conduct hearing of the case soon.
