Cabinet approves Finance Amendment Bill of huge taxes; Waives off electricity bills in flood-hit areas

Federal Government has decided to table the Finance Amendment Bill 2023 regarding new taxes of Rs170 billion in the parliament on Wednesday.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the federal cabinet has given approval of the finance bill for new taxes of Rs170 billion.

The sources said new taxes and International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs will be approved by the Parliament. 

While the federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the waiver of electricity bills of people of the flood-affected areas of Sindh, Balochistan and south Punjab.

Sources told 24News that the cabinet had approved Rs10.34 billion in subsidy for consumers of the flood-hit areas.

Bills for the months of August and September 2022 were waived off.

Apart from that, consumers utilizing up to 300 units of electricity would be able to avail of this facility.

According to the sources, the federal cabinet has also approved a tax on luxury items to strictly implement the PM's austerity policy.

The sources said the cabinet has postponed the decision on a summary of the increase in the price of the injection of corona vaccination.

The federal cabinet has also made a decision not to bring an ordinance related to taxes, sources added.

According to the sources, the federal cabinet has also decided to convene the National Assembly and Senate sessions tomorrow (Wednesday).

The sources said it has been decided that the session of the National Assembly will be held first in which the finance amendment bill will be moved and approved immediately.

An hour after the National Assembly session, the session of the Senate will be called in which the same bill will be tabled as well, the sources said.

President Arif Alvi also summoned the session of the National Assembly at 3:30 pm and the Senate session at 4:30 pm on Wednesday.
