Groom arrested in underage marriage case in SHC

Another case of underage marriage has been filed in Sindh High Court where the groom was handcuffed on the orders of the judge, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the court sent the underage girl, Falak, to a shelter home, while ordering formation of a medical board at Sindh Services Hospital to determine the girl's age.

The court also ordered to determine girl's age within 10 days and sought a report.

The court ordered arrest of Qayyum Ahmed, a boy who married the first-year student. The police arrested Qayyum Ahmed from the courtroom.

The court also ordered to send the boy who married the underage girl to jail.

Parents of Falak resident of Pano Aqil had filed a case of kidnapping of their daughter, who married a boy named Qayyum Ahmed on November 11.

Both the boy and the girl had approached Sindh High Court for termination of the case and protection.

During the hearing, the girl’s parents also reached the court.

Mother of the girl stated in court that her daughter is 15 years old and is studying in first year and was kidnapped and married. 

Court is expressed displeasure over marriage with underage girl.

During hearing Justice Salahuddin remarked that according to documents, girl is 15 years old and this is age to study and how did she get married. 

After determining the age, the provisions of child marriage can also be applied in the case, the court remarked.
