With more than 1.5 million cases pending across various courts, Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Justice Alia Neelum, has called a full court meeting on January 18 to address the timely delivery of justice to citizens, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.
The meeting will be held in the Judges' Library at the Lahore High Court, where discussions will focus on the backlog in district courts.
The Lahore High Court alone has over 100,000 pending cases, including 65,000 at its principal seat. These comprise 11,836 civil cases, 25,312 criminal cases, 26,175 writ petitions, and 2,652 commercial and tax cases.
Across the district judiciary of Punjab, over 1.4 million cases are pending, including approximately 1.19 million civil cases and more than 200,000 session cases.
The meeting will see the participation of prominent justices, including Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi, Justice Abid Aziz Shaikh, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza, Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi, Justice Asjad Javed Gharal, Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Jawad Hassan, Justice Mohammad Tariq Nadeem, and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa.
The Registrar High Court and Director General of District Judiciary will also attend the meeting, aiming to devise strategies to expedite the resolution of cases and ensure timely justice delivery.
