The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday accepted an appeal against the death sentence of Hameedullah, who has been convicted in the Wah Cantonment suicide bombing case.

Accepting the appeal, the Supreme Court declared the ruling of the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) null and void. The court said that Hameedullah was granted bail due to a flawed investigation. He said that first flawed investigations are carried out and then blame is put on the courts.

Hameedullah’s lawyer said his client was implicated in this case. He said it was claimed that Hameeullah was arrested in the tribal area but the FIR was registered just 20 minutes after the Wah Cantonment suicide bombing. How is it possible that a culprit is arrested in the tribal area just 20 minute after the incident?

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Athar Minallah heard the case.

The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court had sentenced Hameedullah to death. Hameedullah was arrested in 2008.
